Behind the Scenes of “Short Sighted”
“Short Sighted” is a new Halogen original show that celebrates the underappreciated medium of short films.
Ep 1 – The Rock: While our host, Jason, gets an education in physical fitness, we see some award-winning short films from around the world. Writer, director and actor Andrew Ruth joins us to talk about his work on Piggyback, and what it’s like to wear all three hats on set.
Ep 2 – Staten Island: Much like the medium of short films itself, Staten Island is often under appreciated. Jason visits “The Forgotten Borough” to find authentic German food, fantastic short films, and technical insight from post production sound mixer Andrew Kay.
Ep 3 – Floating the Apple: On Pier 84 in the Hudson River Park, Sharon Badal of the TriBeCa Film Festival gives Jason tips on how to succeed at festivals, and a peek behind the judges curtain at how the winners are picked. Mark Malkoff keeps us laughing as Jason explores his unique (and sometimes quirky) take on filmmaking, and we are introduced to a small group of impressive people giving back to their community.
Ep 4 – The Belleville: Some great short films and an education on storytelling are on tap at the Belleville in Park Slope Brooklyn. Famed storyteller Faye Lane walks Jason through the fundamentals of a great story, then puts him on the spot at Speakeasy, Stories from the Back Room to see if he can deliver. Nick Prueher, creator of the Found Footage Film Festival tells us about his filmmaking journey and what it’s like working with David Letterman.
Ep 5 – The Crooked Tail Café: Author and co-creator of the show “Start Up” Daniel Nayeri gives us tips on successful writing while Jason finds some great short films and great music from Casey Shea in Gowanus, Brooklyn. WATCH NOW
