Serve the City
Serve the City is a non-scripted show about an international grassroots movement with a focus on social justice. The show’s cast is made up of young people from all walks of life: students, European politicians, business leaders and other young professionals. The show starts in the birthplace of the movement – Brussels, Belgium – the capital of Europe. Cast from around the world embark on a radical emotional journey of serving the world’s poorest and neediest people. They see what no other tourists see – the real life problems of the world’s largest cities. They attempt to make Brussels a better place through doing various service projects:
- teaching dance and basketball to inner city kids,
- rebuilding housing for the poor,
- giving haircuts and massages to the refugees from war-torn places,
- handing flowers to prostitutes in the red light district,
- playing with child victims of abuse,
- feeding the hungry and the poor.
The volunteers experience some of the problems that people they are serving encounter on a regular basis, like verbal and physical abuse, fatigue, cultural barriers and misunderstandings.
The show continues in Ryazan, Russia, a provincial town four hours outside of Moscow. Local volunteers are determined to do Serve the City for the first time ever. A team of American and European volunteers arrive to help make a difference in the heart of the city. The team encounters cultural and other challengers while serving the orphans, the homeless and children with cancer.
The season ends with a final episode featuring an update on selected volunteers one year later.

Love this new show. Seems like it has great potential. I plan on telling as many people about it as possible. Thanks for being brave enough to launch a new network that carries programs that go beyond mindless chatter and inane entertainment to make powerful statements our world needs to hear.
Bravo to Halogen and Serve the City!!!

I am a twenty something and absolutely love this series. It shows the stories of people my age giving up of their time and talents to serve others. It is a truely insperational series.
definitely looking forward to season 2!!!
Was reality television real before Serve the City? No manufactured drama. This show is about as genuine as it gets. I love it!

So nice to watch reality TV about people focused on others instead of the self-centered reality crap out there… I hope it inspires others to see how they can make a difference, too! Thanks for stepping out of the box…
Loved the first episode of the show. Real people and their stories, real life, no simple answers. Very refreshing after extreme home makeovers, just build them a big house and everyone is in happy tears – all problems solved. Where can the episodes be viewed online?

One word: INSPIRATIONAL. I have never watched a show that made me want to get more involved in my community. Thank you for your service to people in need and broadcasting it for people to see. I wish there were more programs like this out there.
I look forward to seeing the next episode of the series and am curious to see how it ends. It is so refreshing to see young people reaching out to those in need around them. It is very inspiring. It is amazing to see what happens to someone, when s/he takes the time to help someone esle solve their problem. It does something to our psyche. I hope this show not only inspires many people like me, but will push us out to reach out to those in our communities who need help, whatever it may be.

Amazing to see the show go out – real people making a real difference, not just in their communities but in themselves as well! And serving is so easy! I hope the show inspires others to step out in their communities; however big or small, sharing a bit of your life with others less fortunate does make a real difference in the lives of those around you…

What a great show!!! It really inspires to get out of your comfort zone and do something…something good that you wanted to do for so long, but always had an excuse not to.

I think this is one of the most amazing shows on tv. I went overseas and did things very similar. It reminds me of the joy and transformation you get from helping others and getting out of your own box of problems. I like to see what they are doing 1 year later! How easy it is to get back to “normal” life. This show makes me want to do more…now
