Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.
You don’t have to have a college degree to serve.
You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.
You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve.
You don’t have to know Einstein’s theory of relativity to serve
You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.

- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“The Drum Major Instinct”
Delivered at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia, February 4, 1968

We all know how great it feels when someone does something nice for us, simple things like a stranger holding a door open for you, or helping you carry a heavy package or just having someone acknowledging your sneeze with a “Bless You” can brighten your day.  We also know how amazing it feels to be a gift giver and do something nice for someone else, but what you may not know is that every time you are the giver or recipient of an act of kindness, your immune system gets a positive boost! Yes, according to Dr. Wayne Dyer in his recent book The Power of Intention, acts of kindness, large and small change the world literally inside and out!

It gets even better; Dr. Dyer says that just witnessing an act of kindness gets you the same benefit!

From The Power of Intention:

“The positive effect of kindness on the immune system and on the increased production of serotonin in the brain has been proven in research studies. Serotonin is a naturally occurring substance in the body that makes us feel more comfortable, peaceful, and even blissful. In fact, the role of most antidepressants is to stimulate the production of serotonin chemically, helping to ease depression. Research has shown that a simple act of kindness stimulates the production of serotonin in both the recipient of the kindness and the person extending the kindness. Even more amazing is that persons observing the act of kindness have similar beneficial results. Imagine this! Kindness extended, received, or observed beneficially impacts the physical health and feelings of everyone involved! Both the face of kindness and the face of creativity are smiling here.“

So why not begin your own Noble Exchange in your very own community and keep the good feelings going? Here are some ideas to get you started:

We all have dreams and if you’re one of those people that knows exactly what you want, that’s half the battle, consider yourself very lucky! Many of us however, aren’t quite sure what our dreams are anymore. Somewhere along the way we were taught that we either couldn’t achieve what we held in our hearts, or that we simply shouldn’t want what we want. So we learned to hide our true hearts desires from other people, and soon enough we could no longer find them ourselves.  But, fear not! Your dreams never die! They’re still deep inside of you, looking for a way out. You may just have to dig a little to find and rescue them.

Once you’ve identified your passion, get ready for your life to change in ways you’ve only imagined! The best gift that you can give both yourself and the world is sharing what you love. No matter what it is, if you love it, you can inspire someone else to love it too!

Questions to ask yourself:

  1. What did you want to be when you were a child? How can you incorporate some of that into your life now?
  2. Can you encourage someone to take a positive step in the direction of a similar dream?
  3. What do you think everyone needs and deserves but doesn’t have? What can you do to help someone have that experience?
  4. What are you really good at and love to do? (Hint -You usually loose track of time when engaged in these activates.) Can you teach it to someone else?

Send us your Noble Exchange ideas by leaving a comment below! We’d love to hear how you’re changing the world, one dream at a time!
