Mississippi Son
Shot in high definition on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, featuring never-before-seen storm footage and scored with an original blues-rock soundtrack composed and performed by Katrina survivors, “Mississippi Son” (95 min.) tells the heartwrenching and heartwarming story of the people, the culture and the future in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Born and raised in Gulfport, Miss., Emmy award winning L.A. filmmaker Don Wilson was deeply moved by the losses of his friends and family. In this film, he returns home to talk to those who lived through the hurricane and continue to deal with the aftermath of the storm.
While the media has been focused on New Orleans, “Mississippi Son” reminds us that the Mississippi Gulf Coast was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Wow, What a great movie about this hurricane and the people who went through it. The music is awesome and is done by musicians who went through the storm. Pretty cool flick, great message.
This movie is the only one with the guts to tell the story of Mississippi where the full force of 40 feet of water and 150 mph winds came ashore. I loved the music, very bules/rock and some great guitar playing. It's like a music video with an important story. Congrats Halogen for playing this film.
Great documentary of a terrible situation. I loved the music and the editing is first rate. Even though people down there lost almost everything, their spirits and humor are amazing. I recommend for sure!
Is this going to be played again or is this out on dvd to purchase???? Great footage of such a terrible event!
The film is on DVD. It's available at mississippison.com or through Amazon. Thanks for the comments. Still a mess down there.
Don and Leslie and the entire crew that made this vision of Don's & Leslies to do and make this extremely great film to become a reality – Don and Leslie I thank you so very much from so deep within my heart and soul. Ya’ll have helped me to stay busy helping others, while I had lost my retirement plan from all of the land and homes that were to be that extra padding on topof many places in Europe, that are and NOW still are that security blanket to allow me to do so many different things and so I could meet Don in Sedona and go through the vortex and so much more. From everything left within me, I Thank You Forever.Don, Leslie – Thank you and may you and yours' be blessed into infinity.
