Help End East Africa Famine

Photo from one.orgDid you know that 12 million people face starvation in the Horn of Africa, and 250 children die in Somalia each day? Yet, the United Nations still needs more than $1 billion for those East Africa famine victims.

As individuals, we should work together with our global community to raise $1 billion. We also need to call on our governments and institutions to act as they have the resources and responsibility to do so.

Social media has become a driving force to spread causes from person to person. In this spirit, we invite you to join 4REAL, Bono, K’naan and thousands of others in supporting the Neighbors Initiative.

Led by the Somali community, the Neighbors Initiative is a relief effort in partnership with the American Refugee Committee. Somalis are not waiting for handouts; they are leading the relief efforts on the front lines and abroad, working toward a better future for Somalia.

Here are some ways you can help:

  1. Donate to the Neighbors Initiative.
  2. If you have Groupon, you can give to the Neighbors Initiative when you Groupon with 4REAL Deal. 4REAL will match the 2.5 percent of your Groupons that go to the initiative.
  3. Text donations to the UN World Food Programme. In the U.S., text AID to 27722 to donate $10. In Canada, text RELIEF to 45678 to donate $5.
  4. Add your voice to the One campaign to urge governments to take action on immediate and long-term solutions.
  5. Support relief organizations.
  6. Keep up-to-date on Twitter at #HornOfAfrica.
