Wednesdays are Now Food Nights on Halogen TV

We at Halogen love food. We love it so much we have a whole block of programming dedicated to it now on Wednesday night.

Our food shows (“Fink,” “Food Jammers” and “Endless Feast“) are now airing Wednesday nights starting at 8pm ET. Catch six back-to-back episodes featuring good food, sustainable practices, empowering teaching and beautiful scenery.

“Fink” – 8pm ET

“Food Jammers” – 9pm ET

“Endless Feast” – 10pm ET

Not only that, but we’re also debuting two new exclusive blogs from our TV personalities, Paul Finkelstein (“Fink”) and the “Food Jammers” guys! Look for new posts every Wednesday starting tomorrow!

‘ReGenesis’ Marathon Leads to Premiere of Season 4 in the U.S.

Fans of “ReGenesis” have reason to rejoice: Halogen TV is airing season 4 in its entirety for the first time on cable in the United States. To celebrate, we’ve lined up a weekend “ReGenesis” marathon to round out your Labor Day weekend. Starting Saturday at 8pm ET with episode one of season 1, “ReGenesis” will air without interruption through Monday, Sept. 6 at 9pm ET, with episode one of the fourth, and final, season.

Paste is Dead, Long Live Paste

The rumors are true. Paste Magazine is ceasing publication immediately due to mounting debt and the extended ad market downturn.

Word of the magazine’s defunct status began to break early Wednesday when writers for Paste began posting semi-cryptic messages on Twitter. Confirmation comes in the form of this message posted on PasteMagazine.com by Editor-in-Chief Josh Jackson:

Today Paste Media Group announces, with deepest sadness, the suspension of the Paste magazine print product.

Struggles with mounting debt were made public last year when our readers responded with generosity to save the magazine. But the prolonged downturn of the ad market has forced a hiatus. All subscribers have access to the digital version of their magazines through the June/July issue on PasteMagazine.com. Paste, while considering strategic alternatives, is focusing on its digital assets, including PasteMagazine.com.

We thank all of those who have shown such tremendous support to a vision of independent media focused on Signs of Life in Music, Film & Culture, including subscribers, advertisers, writers, photographers, illustrators, publicists, record labels, movie studios, book & game publishers and others in the press.

We’re big fans of Paste here at Halogen. We partnered with the folks from Paste on a TV pilot last year that was part of our voting contest and enjoyed the friendship that grew from that collaboration. We’re sad to see them go, but glad to hear that the website will live on.

We’ve only been around for a year, but in online terms, that’s a light year. It was time for an upgrade. Over the past several months we created a checklist of how we wanted to improve our site to make it more user-friendly and better highlight our online content.

Our development team has been hard at work and we think you’ll like what they’ve come up with. The new HalogenTV.com not only looks entirely different, but there are new opportunities to interact with the site like never before.

Our new featured content area on the homepage tells you what’s the latest on our site and what to look for coming up (like our “ReGenesis” Labor Day Marathon!)
Our new schedule makes it easy to see what’s on, what’s coming up and what each episode is about!
We’re rolling out a ton of new content as you’ll see in our featured articles section on the main page.

Yesterday Halogen launched a campaign to give $5,000 to charity: water toward their goal of raising $1.7 million for their September Campaign this year. While $5,000 may not be a lot of money compared to $1.7 million, we know that $5,000 will provide clean drinking water to 250 people for the next 20 years, which is no small thing!

This is how we’re doing it. Rather than asking you to give $1 out of your own pocket, we’re going to give $1 on your behalf—we simply ask that you fill out the short online petition to tell cable operators, “I want my Halogen TV!” You help Halogen and charity: water through your small and simple act, and we get to tell cable operators about all the amazing people across the country who want Halogen!

Get ‘Lost’ with Halogen this Fall

Some tour stops include: San Francisco, Sacramento, Denver, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Syracuse, Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles and more

Halogen is partnering with the people behind a powerful new documentary film we think has the power to change communities and lives. We’ll be airing “Lost in Woonsocket” on the network starting in January 2011, but we’re giving you a chance to see it on a screening tour in cities all across the nation this fall.

The tour kicks-off during National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month on Sept. 1, which is fitting because the film tells the true stories of two alcoholics who are given a rare chance to turn their lives around. Missing for years, the two are discovered surviving in the back woods of Woonsocket, R.I. A community setting is so appropriate to see this film in, as it deals with miraculous reunions of these men with their families, as they receive a real shot at treatment, recovery and redemption. The question in the film is: Will it stick?

For one man, it has. Having successfully maintained his recovery since 2005, Normand Cartier, one of the men featured in the film, is joining the screening tour to tell his story in person.

The “Lost and Found in America” tour runs from September through November 2010. Screenings are free and are being held in schools, churches, and recovery centers in more than 20 states.

A Sneak Peek at the ‘September Campaign’

If you're familiar at all with the story of charity: water, you know that the organization started in September 2006, when founder Scott Harrison threw a birthday party and raised enough money to build six clean water wells in a refuge camp in Uganda. Every year, charity: water has run a campaign in September to invite others to give up their September birthdays to raise money for the cause. To date, they've raised over $15 million, and 100 percent of that money has gone to provide clean water for the most in need around the world.

This year's "September Campaign" kicks off on Monday, Aug. 16, and Halogen is excited to be a part of it! We'll be announcing details soon about how we plan to partner with charity: water, but first we wanted to give you a heads up so you can start getting excited with us about how together we can make a difference.
