Unique Ways to Gift & Wrap

If you want your holiday gift giving to be remembered long after the New Year, avoid the malls and forget the gift cards. We’ve got some wonderfully unique suggestions for everyone on your list, along with wrapping suggestions to make your present stand out under the tree.

Vintage Clothing
There is nothing more unique and eco-friendly than a vintage dress or accessory. Etsy is a great source for vintage and Chiffonier is an excellent shop that offers one-of-a-kind vintage finds. Make that 1920s gown even more special by wrapping it in non-holiday colored tissue paper. Tie it with an antique ribbon or some light-gauge rope and attach an old family photo with a twig from the garden.

Gold Bug
Have someone on your list whose aesthetic tends toward goth or steampunk? Check out Gold Bug, a boutique that specializes in art, jewelry and apparel you won’t find at T.J. Maxx. Wrap your curio in burlap, tie it with a strip of black velvet and affix a copper garden marker as a nametag.

Road Trip
There’s nothing more memorable than an experiential gift. Plan a road trip with someone special, centered on something they love, but don’t often indulge in. Take them wine tasting or river rafting. Take him to that golf resort he’s always talking about, or her for a day of spa treatments. Gather your itinerary (tickets, hotel reservations, etc.), wrap it in a road map and tie it with a skeleton key.

Aerial Classes
Aerial dancing is all the rage and a great way to stay in shape. Classes teaching silk, rope, hoop and trapeze technique are springing up everywhere. Trapeze School New York offers classes in five major cities.

Home Brewing Kit
Guys love beer; we really do. We also love to make things. That’s why Coopers DIY Beer Kit is the perfect gift for your beer-loving handyman. Decorate the kit with an assortment of international beer mats from Collectables Direct. Use double-sided tape so he can use the mats while sampling his first batch. ($109.99 from Amazon)

Luna Tattoo Ukulele
It’s fun to say and easy to play. This Tattoo Concert Mahogany Ukulele from Luna Guitars features a laser etched Polynesian tattoo design, making it both functional and decorative. Wrap the ukelele in sheet music tied with nylon guitar string and use a hole punch to affix a colorful pick for a nice thematic finish. ($89.00 from Musician’s Friend)

Royal & Langnickel Aqualon Watercolor Painting Box Set
Watercolors are making a comeback. This Royal & Langnickel box is a fine starter set at a great price. This is a wonderful gift for kids, grandparents and all ages in between. Use your color printer to make your own wrapping paper featuring works from your favorite artist, tie it with strips of canvas and knot it with a paintbrush. ($28.89 from Amazon)
