We’ve got the best of the Web today, including a sustainable and fashionable way to access music, iPad covers made from the trousers of the most infamous 21st century swindler and a social tattoo project makes empathy permanent.

Vegan Steampunk USB Bracelet is Made from Recycled Linoleum Flooring

Musician and artist Jesse Herbert wanted a way to deliver his music to customers and friends that didn’t create garbage like discarded CDs. At first, he came up with USB keys, but soon realized handing out keys was too impersonal. Instead, Herbert decided to build the key into steampunk-inspired, vegan-friendly cuffs, made from recycled linoleum flooring. The retro bracelets are handmade by Herbert and contain a 2GB stainless steel USB key that can be easily removed. They sell for $30 at his Etsy store. (via @TreeHugger)

Bernie Madoff’s Pants Recycled as iPad Cases

Now victims of fraudster Bernie Madoff can get a piece of him. His pants were remade into iPad cases. His wardrobe was bought at a US Marshals auction where savvy New Yorkers cut and refashioned the trousers into expensive iPad cases. Complete with the original pocket, these iPad sleeves are the ultimate in recycling, and cost between $250-$500 each. (via @TreeHugger)

The Social Tattoo Project Fights Apathy with Ink [Video]

The Social Tattoo Project is “making empathy permanent.” The group is sponsoring tattoos based on major world issues that often become a passing trend. “If you ask someone now what’s happening in Haiti they probably couldn’t tell you, so we came up with a social experiment where we make empathy permanent by tattooing volunteers,” said Jenn Huang, cocreator of the project. Each week, the project calls on the Twitterverse to vote between four trending Twitter topics. At the end of the week, a volunteer gets inked with the most voted topic or issue, which makes the cause permanently apart of his or her life. The first five tattoos read #humantrafficking, #Haiti, #Norway, #poverty and #Japan. (via @mashable)
