Here’s a compilation of the best of the Web today, including an epic LA freeway shutdown, America’s water campaign, and a new recipe site that’s been dubbed “StumpleUpon for food.”

Carmageddon!

Los Angeles is less than 24 hours away of what’s been dubbed “Carmageddon.” The epic event will shut down LA’s infamously jammed 405 Freeway, July 16 and July 17. The 53-hour shutdown, which is part of the freeway-widening project,  will force travelers to take alternate routes, possibly jamming other nearby highways. What will Los Angelenos do? LA officials are urging residents to avoid the area, go on vacation, or  just stay home for the weekend. Watch GOOD’s comical PSA that pokes fun at Carmageddon.

Say ‘Yes’ To Water

Nothing will show the American spirit more than this Saturday’s Green The Block National Day of Action, a campaign that brings together communities for water conservation. “Studies have found that two-thirds of states will soon face water shortages. Twenty million Americans get sick every year from drinking contaminated water due to untreated waste. And 250,000 water mains break annually because of crumbling infrastructure, wasting 1.7 trillion gallons of water a year.” This event comes on the heels of budget cuts to the EPA and the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, which finances water and wastewater improvements. On Saturday, communities around the nation will stand up for America’s water. Find a Green The Block event near you.

StumbleUpon for Food

A new startup, GoJee, has made finding recipes easy with just one ingredient. Much like StumbleUpon for food, the recipe site is a collection of hand-picked recipes from food bloggers. Users tell GoJee what their craving or what they have in their pantry and GoJee will serve up a delicious dish. Whether it’s butter, chocolate or black pepper, GoJee will have a recipe for that.
