We’ve got the best of the Web today, including a mom blogger takes action to end the famine in East Africa, an LA exhibit reimagines a healthier metropolis and an actress hosts a virtual baby shower that benefits UNICEF.

Famine in East Africa Moves Mom, Female Blogger to Act
People in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and other parts of East Africa are starving or dying because of the long-running drought. In the past three months, 30,000 children have died, and hundreds of thousands have fled the famine-plagued region. One mom decided to take action to end the famine through social media tools like videos and blogs as a platform to help. Blogger Sarah Lenssen launched a campaign to help other people take action called ”Ask 5 for 5.” It starts with a $5 donation to provide food and water in East Africa, then you ask five of your friends to give $5 each. Lenssen hopes the “5 for 5” campaign will change the circumstances in the Horn of Africa. Donate your $5 and start asking five of your friends to help end this famine. (via @HuffingtonPost)

Rethink LA
Rethink LA is challenging designers, artists, planners and policymakers in Los Angeles in an innovative exhibit called “Perspectives on a Future City.” Happening now through Sept. 4 at the Architecture and Design Museum, the exhibit envisions multiple realities of LA that addresses the city’s inconsistencies, social issues and environmental problems. The show also delivers solutions to a better LA, such as turning highways into suspended buildings, while another suggests making industrial sites into wetland/wildlife sites so they are nestled in the landscape.” The exhibit allows visitors to immerse themselves in a healthier and sustainable metropolis. Alyssa Milano’s Virtual Baby Shower Benefits UNICEF
Actress and new mom Alyssa Milano and her hubby David Bugliari have created a virtual baby shower for all of her dedicated fans and well-wishers. The site will post videos, poems and drawings for everyone to see. And in lieu of gifts, the proud parents ask that a donation be made to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to provide assistance to mothers in developing countries. (via @Alyssa_Milano)
