The event will benefit charity: water, an organization created to bringing global awareness about poverty; dedicated to providing clean water to impoverished nations. charity: water is a nonprofit organization all about building local clean and safe water projects to people in developing nations. charity: water is unique in that 100% of donations directly fund water projects.
It was started by Scott Harrison, who formerly earned a living promoting nightclubs and fashion events in New York City. While volunteering with Mercy Ships in Liberia, he was confronted with the many health problems caused by contaminated water. That’s when the idea was conceived.
One of the features of the event is the “Waterwalk,” in which guests can walk a fraction of the distance an average person in Africa might walk each day to provide water for their families while carrying two Jerry Cans of water, each 40 pounds, at a time. “Each time a person walks, a group of sponsors donate towards a well,” the website states.
If you are interested in attending this event, you can still purchase tickets ($300) on the website. VIP tickets ($1000) can be purchased through today.
