The Wall Street Journal listed her as the second most compelling “woman to watch” in both 2007 and 2008. Time named her as one of the 100 Most Influential People of the World those same years. Forbes ranked her as the 3rd most powerful woman in 2008 and 2009. Fortune placed her as no. 1 on its list of the World’s 50 Most Powerful Women in 2009 and 2010. Now, TED – a non-profit renowned for gathering the greatest minds of the world – is featuring her at its 2011 conference The Rediscovery of Wonder. A self-proclaimed “global thinker,” Indra Nooyi is the Chairman and CEO for PepsiCo.

Directing the world’s second largest food and beverage company is not what’s turning the heads of leading business experts though, it’s how she directs it. Nooyi is credited for developing the champion campaign that launched PepsiCo into the worldwide spotlight by connecting its products to a socially driven purpose.  PepsiCo’s Performance with Purpose campaign promises consumers to deliver “sustainable growth by investing in a healthier future for people and our planet.” The campaign represents a multi-year growth strategy that Nooyi developed from more than a decade of leading and restructuring PepsiCo’s global policy (Nooyi first joined the company as CFO in 2000). Through the years, Nooyi effectively doubled PepsiCo’s net profits while also establishing an authentic reputation with consumers as a company that designs products that provide responsible nourishment and finds sustainable ways to give back to the communities it serves.

Nooyi asserts that visibility and adaptability are key elements to leading one of the world’s most successful companies. Nooyi will share more of her story and her expertise at the upcoming TED conference, which kicks off in late February.
