Getting Bizzy With It – Businesses on Google+

It’s hard to imagine Google being slightly behind on anything but when it comes to owning a social media forum, Google+ is moving along slowly. Its original venture Orkut was always slow to gain members in the United States while in India and Brazil it prevailed. Will the same fate await with Google+? It doesn’t look that way but it’s safe to say that Google+ is not currently on the autobahn.
Recently Flowtown - masters of charting – asked a similar question and charted out the results. The below provides a topline overview of Google+’ current users:
- Men rule here – 63% of Google+ users are male (22% of which are ages 25 – 34)
- America on Top – Yes, the U.S. is the main country on this platform with 5.3 million unique users (Second place honors goes to India with 2.8 million users)
- Show Me the Money – the largest user group (27.7%) earns between $60 – $99,000 annually
- Wake up! Only 17% of users are active
- It’s in the Biz – Businesses are quickly joining with 61% of the top 100 brands now on Google+
We spoke to Carly Fisher, a senior editor at NBC Universal. Fisher is able to share articles and news via Google+ from NBC’s “The Feast” to help gain views and even more social media share. “For sites that have cross-posting tools, it’s easy to make articles stickier through Google+, allowing us to connect to a larger audience,” she said. “And as a person who stores her life on Gmail, Google Docs, Google Reader and Google Calendar, it’s helpful to share information more quickly to friends and associates.”
When looking at the big picture of Google+ it appears that at the moment, businesses are faster to join the forum, which is the polar opposite to Facebook. Even so, as businesses begin to share special deals on Google+, the people will be sure to follow.
