We know their faces, we watch them on TV, but who are the people behind the talk shows we love? What do they do with their celebrity platform and financial overflow? Halogen takes a look at six television hosts who give back.

Ellen DeGeneres
As the host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen DeGeneres is a fierce anti-bullying advocate, and provides anti-bullying resources on her website. She especially provides support to gay teens. She offers an opportunity for viewers who have fallen on hard financial times to submit their stories for a chance to receive help from her show. The website states: “Do you feel like you’re doing everything you can to get by, but things just haven’t been going your way? If you’ve been hit hard by the economy, tell us your story. What are you doing to keep your family afloat? What keeps you motivated? Ellen is looking to change lives – will yours be one of them?”

Vince McMahon
World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon has donated to many organizations, including Mick Foley’s charity drive to assist the RAINN charity. The WWE has donated more than $5 million to Donald Trump’s charity foundation, including $4 million to get Trump involved with Wrestlemania.

Rachael Ray
This chef participates in many charitable activities, well over 20 including establishing Yum-o! with Bill Clinton to help children eat healthier. Rachael Ray Nutrish pet foods were created from recipes Ray makes for her own dog. All proceeds go to Rachael’s Rescue, a charity founded by Ray for at-risk animals. In addition, Ray supports Blue Planet Run Foundation, Centre for Environmental Education, Clothes Off Our Back, Feeding America, Heifer International, Hope North, Keep a Child Alive, Share Our Strength, Soles4Souls and several other amazing charities. She’s not just a great cook.

Tyra Banks
This former model and host of “America’s Next Top Model” is involved in many charity organizations. She is on the board of advisors of the Yéle Haiti Foundation, and planted a tree along with NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Claire Unabia and Jaslene Gonzalez from “America’s Next Top Model” as part of “Million Tree Month.” She is also involved in the Dream Foundation and TZONE. She recently launched Type F, a beauty and fashion website devoted to tailoring one’s own style.

Dr. Phil McGraw
Dr. Phil McGraw is by nature a caretaker with a big heart, and is a big donor to charity organizations. McGraw donated $50,000 to the TYME Youth Center of Curwensville. He has also supported the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, his own charity the Dr. Phil Foundation, the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis, the Red Cross and many others, not excluding the amazing work he does through his show each week.

Maury Povich
This talk show host has been in the midst of many people’s lives through his show topics, but goes beyond the set to help kids in need. At the 2010 Holiday Gift Collection through St. Luke’s LifeWorks, Povich wrapped presents to give to 2,500 youngsters who have been affected by HIV/AIDS.
