6 Fund-worthy Kickstarter Campaigns

Do you have an idea for a project, but lack the funding to make it happen? Kickstarter helps to make it a reality. In a nutshell, Kickstarter is an online platform for creative types to raise funds to launch or finish their projects. Here are six campaigns we thought were fund-worthy:
Mother’s Red Dress
“Mother’s Red Dress” is a a social issue film by producer John Paul Rice and director Edgar Michael Bravo. The creative duo formed No Restrictions Entertainment to tell stories that entertain, yet confront real-life social issues. Their film, “Mother’s Red Dress” is a tragic love story, dealing with the effects of domestic violence, abuse and mental illness. This film sheds light on how the denial of such trauma can cause mental dysfunction. Currently in post-production, funds raised will be used to complete the film.
Within Every Woman-The Documentary Film
This harrowing film explores the lives of women who were forced into sexual slavery during World War II in Asia. A project from director Tiffany Hsiung, she will ask the question: “How does one heal from brutality? “Within Every Woman” will document the current lives of the remaining survivors, now in their 80s and 90s, and how they overcome the past through compassion and resilience.
Couches of Detroit
A photography project by Sarah Sharp, “Couches of Detroit” is a calendar that will feature 12 seasonal Detroit landscapes, each with an abandoned or discarded couch. Through thought-provoking images, she tells a brutally honest story of how we spend lots of money on couches – or any other object – and dump them on the streets. In an effort to combine social change with personal artistic growth, Sharp will donate 10 percent of the funds to the Shiperd Greens Community Garden.
155 Freeman: Triple Canopy, Light Industry, Public School
What does an online magazine, a cinema, and a public school have in common? They want to open a new arts and culture center at 155 Freeman Street in Brooklyn as a way to support the work of artists, filmmakers, writers and educators. Triple Canopy, online magazine, Light Industry, cinema, and The Public School of New York will organize performances, classes, artist presentations, readings, workshops, concerts, and weekly film screenings — all of which will be open to the public.
The Song of Songs
Singer/songwriter Andrew Rose Gregory has recorded an album based on the Old Testament book, “The Song of Solomon.” The modern take blends orchestral instruments and an indie folk vibe with his sister-in-law singing half of the songs. Gregory recorded the album more than a year ago, but hasn’t found a record label to release it. With Kickstarter, he hopes to raise the funds to release the album.
Atwater Village Farm – A Local Market
Atwater Village Farm will be more than just a food market; it will be a community-meeting place, according to chef and local farmer Piper Goldstein. She wants to open a grocery store in the Atwater community of Los Angeles, combining the old-school corner market feel with the growing Slow Food Movement. Atwater Village Farm will allow patrons to purchase fresh, organic local produce at an affordable price, and swap knowledge on how to live a healthier and sustainable lifestyle.
