We Need Independent Films

The sound of my television turning on, a DVD inserting and the flop of all my things on the couch has become almost routine as I press play on my remote control to view yet another team selection for Halogen acquisitions. This, when I’m not traveling to make pitches for more distribution, has become the gist of my day. One would think that watching TV all day would be a dream job, but I can tell you, after several hundred hours (no joke) my blurry eyes are a little tired and I miss the sunshine of our back patio here on the fourth floor.

With that said, thank you for sending links to your favorite documentaries. We are now moving onto independent films and would love your favorite picks for those as well. Remember to keep our brand in mind: stories that focus on the themes of justice, purpose, connection or beauty. Your voice matters, and we’re listening, so don’t be shy. Together we can build an amazing network!

I’d like to submit my short doc Sura Mbaya (Ugly Face).

Sura Mbaya (Ugly Face) is a traditional doctor living and working on the edges of Kenyaâ€™s Great Rift Valley. In this panoramic corner of the world time moves at slower, more intimate pace. There is space and there is silence. And there is still a man who relates to the land with a knowledge handed down through generations. This short documentary is a gentle and quiet study of a place, a man and a dying tradition.
