Halogen Element: Purpose

My husband is throwing baseballs to our oldest son Sammy, and Matthew is sitting in the rocking chair beside me writing a song in his journal … he’ll likely be singing it to me soon. Our dog Abby is panting at my feet.
Sort of sounds like a quintessential American dream, doesn’t it? Don’t be fooled! This is but one beautiful moment in a flurry of stress and chaos. While I love our country and its freedoms, the cadence of striving is enough to wear down even the strongest families.
Ask anyone today how they are doing, this is what you’ll hear: “Busy!” “Tired!” And most of the time we say it as though it were a good thing. We’ve grown so addicted to the pace of our striving that it’s normal and if you dare slow down you risk falling behind. I hate that!
I wish we could enjoy life more! I’ve always admired Thoreau’s Walden, and while running a TV network isn’t exactly living in the woods those tenants run deep in my spirit and I can’t help them spilling out into my programming choices.
At Halogen we have four core elements, or themes, that we create programs around, one of them is PURPOSE: the quest to live a life of true significance.
I just finished viewing the pilot of “Jump Shipp” and I’m excited to say it showcases this element brilliantly! Hosted by young adult motivational speaker Josh Shipp, this show is full of life and delivers entertainment that left me laughing and crying. This is one show I can’t wait to show you!
Another show that nails our purpose element is “Wave Hunters.” I was just out in LA last week and was able to drop by production on a San Diego beach to meet up with Hagan Kelly, our lead Wave Hunter, before he left for Mexico. Though the time we spent together was brief, it was easy to see his passion for surfing and his quest to find the perfect wave is the purpose that drives him everyday.
What I know for certain is this life is too short to live in a blur of striving. May we find the courage to slow down and discover what’s really important. May we support one another on that journey to embrace what we find sacred. And may Halogen be a place you can turn for inspiration every step of the way.
Becky Henderson is the General Manager for Halogen.
