When I’m asked what I do for a living I sort of sigh because it’s not really an easy answer: I make TV. This, as you can imagine, is not a very satisfying answer, so I’m usually asked again, to which I respond, “Well, I’m actually launching a new television network.” In turn, the response is either: “How do you do that?” or “What kind of network are you launching?”

At this point I know I’m going to be there for a while, so I commit to unpacking the vision. That’s where I’ll start here in my first post to you.

My elevator pitch is that I’m the General Manager for Halogen TV, a socially conscious entertainment network for 18- to 49-year-olds that centers on four unique elements:

• Justice: the longing to make things right in the world
• Purpose: the quest to lead a life of true significance
• Connection: the desire to build deep and meaningful relationships
• Beauty: the delight of art, music, film, design and nature

What does TV about those topics look like?

You’ll soon find out! We are in the process of creating and testing pilots to share with you here on this website! Your opinion matters to us; don’t be shy about letting us know what you think. We’re working on everything from reality-based docu-dramas to scripted sitcoms, dramas and movies. We’ll also offer user-generated content, and information about that will come in a future post.

Why are we doing this?

At the core of why we’re doing this lies our conviction that every person is beautifully unique, highly valued and has something special to offer the world. If that’s something new for you to grasp then I hope as you take this journey with us and begin to engage with our content something will spark inside of you – purpose, hope, belonging – that leaves you feeling as though you matter and can make a difference.

What’s our goal?

It is our hope that our storytelling will not only entertain, but take you to new heights of what you believe is possible and challenge the paradigms of what you think is acceptable.

We have so much to learn from each other, so let’s engage in an honest conversation. Life is full of beauty, challenges and mysteries; it can be a great adventure especially when it’s shared with friends.

The world may seem bleak and full of problems, but let’s look at them as opportunities to come together and make a difference. Let’s stop talking and start living what we believe – deeds over words, community over isolation, diversity over uniformity, creativity over dormancy.

So, come along with us on this journey as we attempt to change the world through entertainment. Not an easy task, maybe now you can understand why I often just say, “I make TV.”
